Here are the useful meta tags in SEO:
<meta name="description" content="Description goes here.">
The meta description tells the site's description. The value of this meta is usually used in the SERPs but this is not true most of the time. Make your site description compelling! And its recommended that this should be with a maximum of 20 words.
<meta name="keywords" content="your 1st keyword, your 2nd keyword">
The meta keyword tells the bots that these are your targeted keyword. Google uses this as a reference for spamming within your page. It is recommended to consist with a maximum of 20 words also.
<meta name="robots" content="oodp">
If you use the meta-robots tag, don’t use the "index,follow" parameter. That is what a search bot does by default.
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
